The last evidence about mermaid is a picture from PT Barnum collection of freakshow. The alleged mermaid is put inside a tank and it seem to be mummified. The specimen of mermaid didn't last long for people to see because the Barnum freakshow was caught on fire and destroyed the mummified mermaid.
People have their own opinion about this sea creature. In every culture there are different types of mermaid’s stories. The ocean is too huge and deep that it is almost impossible for human to explore all part of ocean. People never knew what lurked in the ocean and live among us. For example, the coelacanth fish. The fish is believe to be extinct 65 million years ago. But a new discovery had shown that the fish still exist. Unexpected creature or animal is not impossible to be found in the ocean.
